Sermon Notes

This is the final message in our series on Paul’s letter to the followers of Christ in the city of Philippi. One of the last things Paul writes to his Christian friends is how to have true contentment in this life.

If you are to believe the television commercials, you would think that contentment can be found in the material things of this life. But it cannot.

In chapter 4:11-13 Paul reminds us that true contentment in this life does not depend on what, or how much, stuff we own. It also doesn’t depend on our circumstances; whether things are going well or not. In addition, contentment is foreign to our human nature. It doesn’t come naturally but must be learned. We will look at four things Paul teaches that we need to learn in order to be content, satisfied, and fulfilled in this life.
