“Christianity and Women”

Many Mother’s Day sermons speak of the worth and value of mothers. Instead of focusing on mothers in particular today, we will be focusing on the value of women in general.

Some feminists argue that God, as he is portrayed in the Bible, and Christianity are extremely oppressive to women. They believe that Paul disrespects women and teaches that they are second-class citizens in his New Testament letters. They see him as a misogynist, “a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.”

Just the opposite is true. The reality is that Christianity is the best thing that has ever happened to women. We will look specifically at how the cultures of that day viewed women, some examples of how Jesus related to them, and some of Paul’s writings.
