The Abundant Life Christian Center of Wilmington, MA
A different kind of mission
By Linnea Molgard
God has done some amazing things to get Scott and I to this trip. He's been preparing us through about 3-5 short term missions trips (whether with youth or other adults) to Guyana, upstate New York, and New Orleans. Each time we've come home, we've know it's not our last trip. We view missions as an integral part of every Christian's life, which is a tough thing to relay to northeastern American Christians. Many American Christians are bent on having the American Dream, where success is measured by "things"/ comfort, but God wants us to use our resources (time, energy, money) to serve His purposes! Scott and I are "able" to go live out the Great Comission, so that's what we'll do. Have I wanted the American Dream? Of course, what little girl in suburban America doesn't think about the white picket fence? But, I'd rather stake it all on following Jesus, if I'm going to live in the light of eternity!
Scott and Linnea Molgard are on a year long mission trip with Adventures in Mission on a program called the World Race. The World Race consists of teams of young adults who will be ministering in ten countries over eleven months. With about a month in each country, they build relationships with the local people, assist them in the everyday work of life or in special projects and through all of this they share the love of Jesus in all of their relationships. To learn more about this unique mission opportunity or to follow their activities this year visit the World Race website www.theworldrace.org.
The Broombush Nursery
This is a daycare ministry to the poorest of the poor in Alto Cochabamba, Bolivia. In 2002 a family in our congregation visited Bolivia, where they had served as missionaries several decades earlier. There they discovered an urgent need. In this poor hillside community outside a major urban center, poor families come to find work in the city. The families have no resources and the parents usually have the lowest paying jobs if they have work. Often they would leave their young children "home alone" because they cannot afford childcare. A local church runs a nursery and to help support their work, families in our church sponsor a child with monthly contributions and prayer.

If you are interested in finding out more about this ministry contact the church office.
Short Term Mission Experiences
We encourage our members to participate in short term mission trips to serve both here in the United States and overseas. These trips serve a number of purposes that include:
  • 1. Helping us to see beyond our often own "small" needs to see some of the really desperate needs that exist in the world.
  • 2. Giving us a worldwide link to the church of Jesus Christ that is significantly growing all over the world.
  • 3. Helping us to learn to serve Jesus Christ and His kingdom.
In the last few years we have sponsored trips for youth and adults to Guyana, South America, western New York and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. We are also developing a link with a gifted church planter in Honduras, Central America. We have contributed to building a school for underprivileged children and have helped build a rural church where there were no other churches.
